The HTC J Butterfly is a smartphone designed and developed by HTC for release in Japan, and the successor to the HTC J. Unveiled on 17 October 2012 by Japanese carrier KDDI, the J Butterfly is released in 9 December 2012 in Japan. It is the second smartphone in the world to feature a 1080p display, after Oppo's Find 5.[5][6] The phone will arrive with Android version 4.1 (dubbed Jelly Bean), a quad-core 1.5 GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, and an 8-megapixel camera. It comes with 2 GiB of RAM and a 2,020 mAh battery.[4]
The J Butterfly is waterproof and has a 5-inch "Super LCD 3" display with full HD resolution (1920x1080 pixels). This translates to a pixel density of 440 ppi.[4] In comparison, The HTC One X offers 312 ppi, the iPhone 5's "Retina display", 326 ppi, and the Nokia Lumia 920, 332 ppi.[7] The display is manufactured by Sharp and JDI.[7]
The Droid DNA is the Verizon version available for $200 with a two year contract. It shares many similar specifications as the J Butterfly, but lacks a MicroSD slot.[8] In December 2012, HTC posted information about the HTC Butterfly which is an international version of the J Butterfly that features the traditional HTC Sense interface.
